Festive period menu 2018

The first crackers were pulled yesterday lunchtime as we hosted Christmas booking number 1. The festive menu is now running for the rest of December and as always you can reserve a table by calling us on 01453 832808. Please note we are fully booked for Christmas Eve. A few tables are still available for New Years Eve.

Red onion soup with double Gloucester croutons

Devon crab, prawn and crayfish tail “cocktail”

Venison sausage and mash

Pan fried Cornish mackerel fillet with homemade piccalilli

Warm beetroot and soft goats cheese tart with chopped hazelnuts

 

Posh fish pie, Prosecco cream sauce and potato topping

Pan fried sea bass fillet on pepperonata

Aged local beef fillet, sautéed mushrooms, truffle oil and rich red wine sauce              (£3.50 supplement – sorry)

Slow roasted porcetta, garlic, sage and onion stuffing, cider gravy

Roast local pheasant breast, red cabbage, chestnuts and Port reduction

Cornish kale and ricotta cannelloni, winter mushrooms and roast tomato sauce

Weekend menu Friday 30/11 and Saturday 1st December ’18

It’s rather wet and windy folks. We just had a delivery and the driver said the doors almost snapped off his van at his previous drop to the golf club on the common!  The Christmas decorations are up and the lights will be switched on this Friday.

Black Friday…….another American import that so many in this country seem to have embraced. There was a display of reduced price, supersized bottles of spirits in our local supermarket on Friday which was stripped bare when we popped in for the papers and a few bits on Saturday morning.

Overheard two young mums in the local supermarket. One said “I don’t know why they have to do Halloween on a school night” the other replied “Yeah it would make more sense to have it on a Friday” ……….Bless ’em. 

We have tables available for dinner on both Friday and Saturday at time of writing. Fresh fish ordered for delivery in the morning. Pheasant now on the menu as winter arrives. Don’t forget Saturday brunch served from 11a.m.

Weekend menu – 26 / 27 October 2018

Every Tuesday morning between 6.30 and 7.30 some chap wanders round town wafting one of those annoying petrol leaf blowers. The object is to blow any leaves and debris in to the street before the road sweeping wagon comes through and sucks it all up. In reality he ends up blowing muck in to all the shop doorways and on to window ledges as well as waking up any town centre residents still in bed. This week he didn’t show up so after the road sweeper had gone through we were left with pristine streets but pavements carpeted in fallen leaves. You may have seen a lot of local business folk pushing brooms on Tuesday morning.

A bit late posting the menu today…..here’s why. Our fishmonger is based up the road in Cirencester where they receive deliveries from the coast then store, prepare and dispatch orders to restaurants, hotels etc. in the area. So as to improve efficiency (cut costs?) the order department is now based in the South Midlands and we did not receive our regular Thursday morning call with market updates and fresh fish availability for the weekend’s order. Rest assured we have now placed our order and fresh fish will be delivered in the morning but it’s a shame to loose that first name contact and rapport that built up over our 15 years as customers.
