Mid week menu – 6 to 8 March 2018

Unbelievable! ……we had a mobile of swimming sea bass hanging from a beam in the dining room which we brought back from Padstow some time ago and it has gone. It would have meant standing on a chair or lifting up a smaller person to reach it but someone liked it enough to put some effort in to stealing it from us.  The snow has mostly gone now so things can get back to normal. We walked down to the supermarket yesterday with a list of a few bits we needed for brunch and it was like a scene from early 70’s Moscow with rows of empty shelves and folk pushing each other out of the way to get the last carton of milk. Don’t forget our 3 for 2 offer this month and we can probably squeeze in one more table for lunch on Mother’s day.

Weekend menu – 2nd & 3rd March 2018

The beast from the East….The geezer from the freezer…call it what you will it is mid morning and the thermometer in our snow covered courtyard reads minus 4 C. Undeterred  we have just placed our fish order and written the weekend menu. As we live above we will be open whatever the weather and the heating will be on full. Don’t forget our 3 course for the price of 2 dinner offer. Mothers day lunch is almost fully booked. Saturday brunch will be served from 11a.m. as usual, put your wellies on and wander down. We thought Spring was in the air earlier this week as we had a visit from Mr and Mrs duck in the courtyard. They had a good look around and did a bit of housekeeping in the corner where she nested last year so watch this space. Now though the forecast is for sub zero temperatures and biting Siberian winds so watch out gardeners as we can see lots of buds and shoots in our borders. We had a surprise visit from the Environmental Health officer during Saturday brunch for an unannounced hygiene inspection. After quite a lengthy visit and a good look at all aspects of the kitchen and the management systems we have in place we passed inspection and were awarded our 5 star rating as usual. It’s the first time in our careers that we have ever experienced a routine visit at the weekend.
