Weekend menu – 20 & 21 October ’17

They don’t make stuff like they used to! Regular readers may recall we had to replace one of our big fridges recently. The new unit was delivered on 1st September and has already gone on the blink. It is under warranty and an engineer is due this morning but it’s blooming inconvenient and not what you expect from a brand new bit of supposedly commercial kit. It also puts us behind with prep for the hopefully busy weekend ahead until we have the fridge space to store stuff correctly. The skipper of the Ellie Jean down in Poole has landed some grey mullet which will be delivered in the morning together with monk fish cheeks, crayfish, crab and prawns for the weekend menu. Only a couple of free tables for Saturday, space on Friday at the moment. Please call 01453 832808 to book.

Whoops…a bit late with the menu this week. It was only when the lunchtime news came on the radio I realised the fishmonger had not rung yet. All ordered now for delivery in the morning so I can finalise the menu and post it. Tables a plenty for Friday dinner at the moment. It’s the second week in August and we were thinking about putting the heating on last night to take the chill off the dining room….aahh the great British summer!     At the moment we have tables available for Friday evening but Saturday is filling up so please call on 01453 832808 to reserve for dinner. Saturday brunch served from 11a.m. and no need to book, just pop in. If it’s dry we will have the courtyard open too.

I’m all for a bit of forward planning but wasn’t expecting to take a dinner booking  for Christmas Eve from a couple eating with us over the weekend. We also have a wedding party booked for September 2018 but we don’t have next years diary yet! It’s all business though so we will gladly book it.

We have a glut of courgettes and tomatoes at the moment. As well as our own home grown produce on occasion friends and customers very kindly turn up with a box of large, misshapen courgettes or similar and there is only so much soup, sauce and chutney you can make. We’ll repay the favour when our pears are ready, it looks like another good year and in fact we are still using the 2016 pear chutney.
