Hoorah…….Spring has finally arrived and we actually had people sat in the sunny courtyard for brunch yesterday! The daft duck has come back to see us so we can only presume things did not end well for her half dozen little ones earlier in the week. That’s nature for you.

Weekend menu – 4 & 5 August 2017

We have a glut of courgettes and tomatoes at the moment. As well as our own home grown produce on occasion friends and customers very kindly turn up with a box of large, misshapen courgettes or similar and there is only so much soup, sauce and chutney you can make. We’ll repay the favour when our pears are ready, it looks like another good year and in fact we are still using the 2016 pear chutney. She got it right this time! Our daft duck was in the courtyard the other morning encouraging her 11 ducklings to jump down from the lean to. You can just make out 4 of them on top of the wall in the picture below preparing to leap. They all made it down safely and spent the next 24 hours building up strength before the next stage of their journey as they jumped in to the stream and paddled off.

I can only blame it on the mini heat wave which meant I dashed from the office (which is over the restaurant kitchen and therefore rather warm) once the orders were placed and the menu was written without doing the blog bit!
