Weekend menu – 8 & 9 June 2018

The scaffold and netting is down, the windows have been cleaned and Pete the builder is just finishing off and cleaning up after the wall repairs. No excuses for us not to crack on with  the routine summer maintenance jobs out front now but already we look so much tidier and welcoming. Just ordered some Cornish Pollock for delivery in the morning. It is caught by Darren Jose with rod and line off his day boat Sea Maiden out of Hayle Harbour. In season, as fresh as it comes and sustainable.

Weekend menu – 11 & 12 May 2018

A bit late posting the menu today…..here’s why. Our fishmonger is based up the road in Cirencester where they receive deliveries from the coast then store, prepare and dispatch orders to restaurants, hotels etc. in the area. So as to improve efficiency (cut costs?) the order department is now based in the South Midlands and we did not receive our regular Thursday morning call with market updates and fresh fish availability for the weekend’s order. Rest assured we have now placed our order and fresh fish will be delivered in the morning but it’s a shame to loose that first name contact and rapport that built up over our 15 years as customers. Weekend menu – 20/21 April 2018

We tried some nice wines yesterday with Antony from The Oxford Wine Company in preparation for our new list which will be coming soon. First English asparagus of the season is in the kitchen and looks great, on the menu this weekend cooked simply and served with cracked pepper and lemon butter sauce. English asparagus season is coming to an end soon so we’ll put it on the menu again while we can. We had another delivery from Woodchester Valley Vineyard , both the Bacchus and Regent Rose would pair well with the asparagus for a celebration of  local summer produce.
