Weekend dinner 23/24 September 2016

We are definitely in the wrong line of work …..we had a wasps nest behind the telephone box at first floor height on the front wall of the building. The environmental health were contacted  at the begining of the month and the “wasp whisperer” finally came on Tuesday. He spent about 10 minutes on site, 5 of which were filling out paperwork and doing his risk asessment before taking a lance out of his van and squirting the site from ground level. Cost……..£57 to paid in advance of the visit! That’s only 2 quid short of a three course meal for two at our humble establishment.

Pan fried Devon crab cake with sweet chilli dipping sauce

Twice baked double Gloucester soufflé on spinach cream sauce (15 minutes)

Finely sliced Severn and Wye dill cured salmon, horseradish crème fraiche

Free range egg, air dried ham and roast tomatoes baked under Parmesan cream


Pan fried sea trout supreme with crayfish and caper butter

Poached Cornish monk fish tail with mild curry cream sauce

Roast Barbary duck breast sliced over Nailsworth valley blackberry jus

Sautéed Cotswold pork escallops, slow braised red cabbage, Port gravy

Aged local beef fillet, roast shallot and red wine reduction (£3.50 supplement – sorry)

Mixed mushroom millefeuille, chive cream sauce and truffle oil


Baked cheesecake with apple and sultana compote

Dark chocolate and orange torte, tangy orange sorbet

Pecan tart served warm with clotted cream ice cream

Four West Country cheeses, Bath Olivers and Hilary’s fruit bread
